Folded fin inserts are a common addition to machined and brazed liquid cold plates to increase the overall heat transfer. These inserts can be introduced below the high heat flux areas or can be introduced throughout the surface. The most common method of attaching the folded fin inserts into the plate is Brazing or soldering. The fins get attached mechanically and thermally and thus forms the additional surface area at both the top and bottom of the flow path. Folded fins come in a variety of forms and the most commonly used is Lanced offset folded fins.
