Skived Fin Cold Plate



This is basically a method of increasing the surface area in the fluid path for enhanced heat transfer. The introduction of skived fin also benefits with additional turbulence getting created and thus improving the heat transfer more.

Skived fin used as inserts in the flow field which usually is described as thinner fins and a higher fin density. Skived fin heat sinks can either be dropped into a machined flow path or the cold plate can have a machined opening where the insert can directly contact the heat source and fluid without introducing an interface resistance of solder or epoxy. By balancing the additional pressure drop due to these inserts with flow rate, we can drastically increase the performance of a liquid cold plate in its existing volume.
